About eight months ago I purchased the acomdata E5 HybridDrive hard drive for my backups. It's a 500gb USB 2.0 external hard drive. It's been a great addition to my travel computer system.
To keep it safe during my travels I use an Outdoor Research padded water bottle 'parka', made to insulate the wide mouth Nalgene water bottles in freezing temperatures when hiking. The drive fits in it with room for the power supply and USB cable.
The drive comes with backup software and 128 bit encryption for password protection of your files. I like the 'Mac' styling, but you can use it equally well with your PC laptop.

As a caveat to recommending this drive, you may wish to note that Acomdata's password protection is incredibly flimsy and their hybrid drive models function at incredibly slow speeds on some computers - http://www.macfixitforums.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=periphs&Number=821721&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=31&fpart=1 for reference.

Thanks for your comment. I checked out the forum page you listed. My experiences with the Acomdata 500GB Hybrid Drive have been excellent. I dump huge amounts of data to it in scheduled backups, with no problems.
I have since purchased a two Acomdata MiniPals for the Mac Mini back home, based upon my positive experiences with the first drive.
Anyone else have any negative experiences?

I purchased the 500gb hybrid drive last week and for my IBM laptop, for some reason the highest the transfer rate for me is no more than 900kb/s, I have looked at other forums and people write that they get as much as 480mb/s transfer, Im too lazy to go to the store and replace the drive to see if its just that one which is so slow because I have already put 50gigs of data on it.
